Macbeth is a liar because he killed Duncan to become king then blamed it on other people e.g. Servants, Malcom, and donaldbain like when he says “o, yet I do repent me of my fury that I did kill them.” He says that about Duncan’s guards because he killed them to blame it on them and said he killed them out of anger of Duncan’s death. Macbeths mental state
I think that Macbeth is mad because in act 3 scene 4 Macbeth says “The table’s full.” when there is one seat left but Banquos ghost is sitting init and only Macbeth can see Banquos ghost.
Also it’s like lady Macbeth and Macbeth have swapped personalities because lady Macbeth is starting to show guilt. Also Macbeth is being overwhelmed with power I know this because he has sent murderers to go and kill his best friend banquo.
Macbeths mental state
1) I think he is mad because he doesn’t even know what he’s seeing like when he says ” is this a dagger which I see before me.”
2)In this quote he says “Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood.” Which means he does t think he can wash the guilt away for killing Duncan.
3) in act 1 scene 7 Macbeth says in his soliloquy “who against his murderer shut the door, not bear the knife myself.” I think this means he is confused he doesn’t know what to do whether to kill Duncan or not.
4) I also think he is mad because only him and Banquo can see the witches. An evidence of him seeing the witches is in act 1 scene 3 he says “into the air, and what seemed corporal, melted, as breath into the wind. Would they had stayed.” I know this is talking about the witches because the witches vanish then he says that.
5)In act 1 scene 7 in this quote he admits he is going to kill Duncan “when we have marked with blood.” I think this makes him mad for power because he knows he will become king but now he’s going to go and kill him.
Metaphysics
Metaphysics is when you can see something no one else can see like a ghost but it could be something else like an object.
like in Macbeth act 2 scene 1. In macbeths soliloquy he says “is this a dagger I see before me.” This is metaphysics because it’s and imaginary dagger which no one else can see.
Pathetic fallacy
Pathetic fallacy is when say something bad happens the weather will be bad if something good happens the weather will be nice.
For instance in the play Macbeth by Shakespeare in act 1 scene 1 as the witches enter there is thunder and lightning. Also at the end of the scene all the witches say ” fair is foul and foul is fair hover through the thog and filthy air.” Which is also pathetic fallacy because it’s relating to the weather.
Paradox
A paradox is when the author says two things that cant happen at the same time but do happen at the same time.
An example of this is from the play MACBETH by Shakespeare. In act 1 scene 1 and the Witches say “Fair is foul and foul is fair.” This is a paradox because fair and foul can’t happen at the same time but they are.
Act 1 scene 7 last two lines
“Away, and mock the time with fairest show:”
“false face must hide what the false heart doth now”
The prince of Cumberland
MACBETH
The prince of Cumberland: that is a step on which I must fall down, or else o’erleap, for in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires, let not light see my black and deep desires, the eye wink at the hand. Yet let that be, which the eyes fears when it is done to see.
The prince of Cumberland. Thats a step to high and he must come down. He lies in my way. Stars hide the true me and let light not show the real my black and deep desires.
but ’tis strange
But ’tis strange
and oftentimes, to win us to our harm,
the instruments of darkness tell us truths,
win us with honest trifles, to betray’s
in deepest consequence.
it is strange: often, in order to do us harm, the witches tell us things that are truths about matters of small importance and then betrays our relation of something of importance.
